By definition, rubbernecking “describes the act of gawking at something of interest. It is often used to refer to drivers trying to view the carnage resulting from a traffic accident … Rubbernecking has also been described as a human trait that is associated with morbid curiosity.”[1]
In other words, rubbernecking is what people do when they have absolutely no intention of helping hurting and/or wounded people.
They just gasp, gawk & go about their business. That’s rubbernecking.
I think the church has been rubbernecking culture for far too long.
I don’t know how to say this any more plainly. The world does NOT need rubbernecking saints; the world needs spiritual paramedics. The world needs people with the tools and training to rescue, revive & restore people whose lives have been wrecked (Mark 2:17).
I’m dialing 9-1-1 on behalf of the world and calling on the church to STOP rubbernecking and START helping. Jesus came to seek & save the forgotten, the rejected, the poor, and the lost (Luke 19:10). Since that was His mission … that’s our mission, too (John 20:21).
- Repent from your rubbernecking.
- Determine to make a difference.
- Ask God to help you see the world through His eyes.
- Show the love of Jesus.
- Do it now.
AMEN! Im guilty though. I’m still working on it, one step at a time, started with loving people and helping them. On the right track though and its still a-movin
Its just not a speed train
Kraig, I just wrote about this, and read a similar post on Tony Morgan Live. I needed this and I guess this is Gods wake-up call. It hurts, but that is what the truth does. Thanks.
