I abhor traffic, so as I approached yet another red light I tried to calculate the path of least resistance. I had two options: in the right lane was a yellow school bus (ugh!) and in the left lane was a Red Bull delivery van (Red Bull gives you wings!). That’s a no-brainer, right? So I slipped into the left lane (a.k.a. the “fast” lane or the “passing” lane) and anxiously awaited the green light. My plan was to zip past the school bus, merge right, and make the next right turn about 100 yards down the road.
3 … 2 … 1 … green – GO!
Uh … GO!
Hellooooo?! Mr. Red Bull? – let’s GO!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Slowly he eased off the brake and began to accelerate in a manner I can only describe as akin to a sedated senior citizen on a leisurely Sunday afternoon drive in blizzard conditions. What the – ? Meanwhile the school bus accelerated like an F-15 using full afterburner on a max vertical takeoff followed by a string of what appeared to be NASCAR wannabes on their final lap at the Daytona 500.
